Physical Description | Aelia is average height with light brown hair that she wears long, although usually she puts it up when on duty. She has green eyes and the sort of accidental paleness one gets when they spend too much time on a starship without going on away teams. She has a slightly upturned nose and a smile that can be a touch too wide when she is really enjoying herself. Luckily for everyone, this only happens occasionally. She has mastered the smirk and unfortunately her resting face makes it look like she would rather be ballroom dancing with a drunk Klingon than listen to you. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Aelia’s natural personality is somewhere between ‘why am I talking to you’ meets ‘I have a horrible feeling about this situation’. While she is good at knowing when to speak, her face however betrays her and she can’t hide anything. Her favourite thing to do is to curl up in bed with a book and music on, alone, possible after eating half a box of chocolate. She has a good head for knowledge, which is most likely one of the only reasons she has climbed the ranks. No one is more surprised than Aelia about where she is and in what position, mostly due to her absolute horror at strong displays of emotion. She hates it when people cry, can’t stand what she classifies as whining (basically everything), mentally cringes at any declaration of love and may break out in hives if hugged. In theory she should be a dreadful Counselor, except sometimes she catches herself saying something she has learned that helps a situation. This has happened in front of Senior staff enough for her to get promoted. There is another side to her. If coaxed out to a party and after enough food and refreshments, she will throw herself into it as if an extrovert has taken over her body. Unfortunately, she will then need two days to recover in complete silence. |
|
Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: Great retention of knowledge Capable with Starfleet issued weapons Can make a cup of tea the old fashioned way Weaknesses: Dislikes 90% of people she meets (not the best fit for a Counselor) The opposite of warm and approachable (could be a weakness if you are a Counselor) Couldn’t care less about engineering, science, operations. Also has zero knowledge in those areas. |
|
Ambitions | None, more bewilderment at somehow still being there as a counsellor | |
Hobbies & Interests | Reading books, listening to music, holodeck shooting games and role playing games, fascination with penguins, sarcastic comments muttered under her breath, crocheting and knitting (always good to have weapons in your hands) |
Personal History | Aelia Painswick is the second daughter of Endeavour Painswick and Honoria Painswick and was brought up on Earth. Growing up, she was in constant competition with her brother Cornelius, even if their parents said they loved them both equally. Aelia and Cornelius would egg each other on with everything from who could climb the tallest tree to who would be able to deceive nanny. Aelia was good at school but lazy, only caring for subjects she liked and not caring about the others. When she was sixteen her brother dared her to join Starfleet. It wasn’t something she had ever considered but the challenge had been set (incidentally, she dared her brother to go and be an exchange student on Vulcan…which he did and hated every second of). Aelia paid attention to her lessons and picked up enough knowledge to get into Starfleet. Once there, her brother dared her to do the ‘most boring, emotional, supportive and darn beloved role in Starfleet’… So she went the Counselling route because she was not going to let her brother win. She graduated in 2365 and realised to her horror that she remembered what she had been taught and was able to apply it in her work. She also had no idea what else to do. Incidentally, this was the same year she dared her brother to work at Risa for a year. Anyroad, Aelia kept working and didn’t do brilliantly, as most found her cold and clinical. Then the war broke out and things changed a little bit. Counselors got away with being a bit firmer here and there and Aelia leant into it like there was no tomorrow. Even when the ship mostly did minor support for bigger and shinier ships. It was pure chance that she said the right things here and there, in front of the Captain, and when the war ended somehow her reputation had become solid. She spent the next few years working (she doesn’t like the word serving), on the USS Crier, where she was Assistant Chief, which basically meant she did therapy and paperwork. She was so good at the latter that the former was forgiven by her Chief (who after 4 sessions decided that maybe her brother should challenge her in showing positive emotions towards people). In 2381 she was assigned to the USS Quebec, as Chief Counselor. Her brother challenged her to try and be optimistic about the posting. It might be the one challenge she will fail. |
